According to custom knifemaker Ken Onion, the Speed Bump—which also features the SpeedSafe assisted-opening mechanism—is designed for multi-tasking, minimal mass and maximum performance. "I wanted to make the Bump as multi-tasked as possible," says Onion. "The blade design is unique, but at the same time, it's very practical and fluent at a large number of jobs."

In a tougher cutting situation—for example, cutting a half inch branch—the bumped blade shape provides maximum leverage and cutting ease. For piercing, the blade's point is precisely centered so that the energy is distributed evenly down the handle to offer greater power with less effort.

The handle fits the hand precisely and is constructed of G10 for strength. The Speed Bump's handle has a textured surface and provides comfortable and secure grip.

Thanks to Kershaw's SpeedSafe assisted opening system, the Speed Bump offers maximum flexibility in opening technology as well. The proprietary SpeedSafe technology enables the user to open the knife with one hand—left or right handed. The user gives a short push on the thumb stud and the blade moves into position smoothly and easily. It then locks into place for safe, secure use.
