MKM is a new supergroup that is ready to rock the knife world, a partnership of many of the finest makers in Maniago, Italy’s cutlery capital. LionSteel, Fox, Mercury, and Viper together are a force to be reckoned with, teaming up to produce some of the finest production knives available today. Their first set of releases are collaborations with Western designers and is called the Mikita Collection.
First up is the MKM Arvenis made by Fox Knives, an elegant framelock flipper designed by Lucas Burnley. The cream of the crop is the Damasteel version, with a machined titanium frame with two matching Damasteel Vinland inlays, but just as nice is the version with a marbled carbon fiber scale with titanium inlay and PVD coated M390 steel. Rounding out the lineup are G10 liner lock versions with striking anodized aluminum inlays and stonewashed M390 blades. With crowned spines and buttery smooth action, the attention to detail on the Arvenis is truly world class.
Next is the MKM Clap, designed by Bob Terzuola and crafted with precision by LionSteel. These gorgeous liner locking knives come with a removable flipper tab as well as a nail groove, suiting both one-hand and two-hand opening preferences. The knife is available with or without titanium bolsters and comes with blue anodized accenting hardware that compliments the handle materials including exotic woods, G10, and carbon fiber. Sporting an M390 blade with compound grinds, the Clap performs just as good as it looks!
Now we come to the MKM Fara, built by Mercury and designed again by Lucas Burnley. This is a fully modern slipjoint, available with either titanium, anodized aluminum, and Santos Mahogany or olive wood options. Flowing lines make this a stylish knife a perfect fit for any classy occasion. The walk and talk on the blade are stellar, with a nice half stop for added safety. Flat ground M390 blade steel and an aggressive blade profile ensure the performance is up to the highest standards.
From the fourth partner in this new venture, we have the MKM Raut made by Viper, another Burnley design with M390 steel. Two versions of this knife are available, the first with a front flipper, and a second with both a front and conventional flipper. Each knife also has four different handle options, with multiple G10 overlays available, as well as carbon fiber, and different anodized options for the frame. The knives also feature their Hybrid locking system: elegant and concealed like a liner lock yet thick and strong like a frame lock.
Finally, we have a fixed blade to throw into the mix, a Terzuola design made by Fox, the MKM Jouf. This full tang tactical knife is made from N690Co stainless steel and can be had with either a black Cerakote or stonewashed finish. The contoured G10 scales actually wrap around the tang and is cut away in a few key places, exposing the tang and strategically placed jimping underneath. Echoing the pivot collars on the folding knives, the front screw on the Jouf features a blue anodized titanium ferrule. A MOLLE-compatible drop sheath completes the package.
Judging by this first set of releases, MKM has set their sights on being a top-tier player in the industry. Offering premium finish and high-end materials at reasonable prices, we think these designs have what it takes to bring the fight to the latest crop of high-end Chinese mid-techs, with all the flair and style that the Italians do best!
