Knives with Patterned Damascus Steel Blades - 2020 Media
Published: 4 years ago
Jake reviews and shows knives with Damascus Steel Blades, such as the Benchmade Bugout Gold Class, or some Olamic Cutlery pieces.
Damascus is two or more steels, layered on top of one another, heated, drawn out, and folded over and over again. Then this "layered steel" is acid etched - meaning it's submerged in acid until the pattern is revealed. In the different steels, one will be more resistant to the acid than the other, which will help reveal the pattern. You can fold the steel in different ways to achieve different patterns and designs. It's a rather labor intensive process, which makes Damascus blades more expensive than other knives.
