Bob Dozier & John Costanza Talk About Leather Care - Pt 7 Media

Published: 3 years ago

Bob Dozier talks with John Costanza from Western Star Leather about leather care for new leather, old leather, and other tidbits. This is kind of a behind the scenes moment with two master craftsmen talking and sharing information. The information isn't laid out fast and orderly, but nonetheless I felt it was interesting enough to post.

John Costanza (correct spelling) Recommends the following for Old Leather:
1. Saddle Soap
2. Light coat of pure neatsfoot oil (too much will ruin it)
3. Then Ray Holes Saddle Butter

We want to re-emphasize, Oxalic acid is for new leather only.

We are working on a comprehensive written article on how to take care of your leather, but it has gotten rather long. We are going to have to split it out into multiple articles (new leather, old antique leather, how to get rid of Verdigris corrosion, etc.). We're doing some experimentation to make sure we get the best results, so it may be a while before the article is published.
