My journey with knife design started years ago, but this project felt different. I wanted to design the ultimate "first knife"—one that someone could confidently recommend when asked, "What's a great first knife?" It had to be affordable, reliable, and functional. This is the result.

From my early days in the Boy Scouts to years spent mentoring young adventurers, pocket knives have always been an essential part of my experience. Seeing young knife enthusiasts walk into our shop with $25 in their pockets and no options was frustrating. The average knife in our store is $75—too high for an entry-level blade. The Lander 5 changes that.

Bringing this knife to life wasn’t easy. The first design was too close to my previous models, like the Civivi Baby Banter. It needed to stand on its own. After countless refinements, redesigns, and prototypes, we landed on a thinner, more streamlined frame lock design with a thumb-hole opener—both firsts for me.
