Maserin WOODSMAN 917 | Designed for the Outdoors Media

Published: 2 weeks ago

Meet the Maserin WOODSMAN 917, an outdoor fixed-blade knife designed by me, Igor Bortolussi, and manufactured by Coltellerie Maserin in Maniago, Italy.

My goal was to create a dependable outdoor knife that could provide strength and confidence without becoming unnecessarily large or heavy. The result is a balanced and versatile tool designed for camping, bushcraft, food preparation, woodworking and general outdoor use.

The WOODSMAN features a 10.2 cm drop-point blade made from Nitro-X7 stainless steel, hardened to 62 HRC. Its 3.4 mm thickness, full-tang construction and full-flat grind provide an effective combination of strength, cutting performance and control. The stonewashed finish gives the blade a practical outdoor character while helping to conceal the marks created through regular use.

Particular attention was also given to ergonomics. The rounded, symmetrical handle is designed to remain comfortable in different grips and can be used naturally by both right-handed and left-handed users.

The WOODSMAN 917 is available in three versions:

• 917/MCV — Green Jute Micarta
• 917/MCN — Black Denim Micarta
• 917/PM — Brown SolidPaper

Each version includes a versatile black leather sheath that supports different belt-carry configurations.

The WOODSMAN represents my interpretation of the outdoor knife: robust without being excessive, modern while remaining connected to Italian knife-making tradition, and designed above all to be genuinely used.
