Spyderco founder Sal Glesser designed the original Military Model 25 years ago to be the perfect cutting tool for forward-deployed military personnel. This full-sized, LinerLock design became an instant classic, but also inspired demand for a more compact version. The Para Military and its successor, the second-generation Para Military 2, answered that calling, scaling down the design and adding the enhanced strength and functionality of Spyderco’s Compression Lock® mechanism and the versatility of a four-position pocket clip. Continuing this evolutionary process, the Para 3 distilled all the key features of the Para Military 2 into an even more compact, pocket-friendly package.
All three members of this distinguished family of knives are still going strong and collectively represent the backbone of Spyderco’s USA-made product line. The base models of each design have also inspired a broad range of variants that showcase different blade steels, edge configurations, coatings, handle materials, colors, and other features.
