How to Do a Safe Push Cut Away from Your Body (Carving Tip) Media
Published: 1 week ago
Welcome to the Morakniv Carving School! In this video, our colleague Mikael shows you one of the classic and basic carving grips – perfect for improving your control and technique when carving.
Today’s technique: Push Cut (Away from Body)
Hold the knife in a firm grip and make smooth, controlled cuts away from your body. Start by placing the wood close to the base of the blade, near the handle, and guide the cut toward the tip of the knife. Rest the workpiece and your supporting hand on your thigh or knee for extra stability. This is one of the most basic and safest carving techniques, ideal for both rough shaping and finer detail work.
