Making a LEATHER SHEATH for a KHUKURI | Kailash Blades Media

Published: 3 days ago

In this video we follow our master sheathmaker Srikrishna "Siru" karki as he makes a western leather sheath for a khukuri in our workshop at Kailash Blades. This is in contrast to our traditional daps which use a wooden core with leather exterior and loops. This specific style of sheath is open spined which gives good retention, drawing and storing for the recurved blade shape. The construction is multiple pieces of stacked leather which is sometimes called pancake or sandwich style. This is in contrast to a single piece of folded leather or "taco" style.
The specs of the blade shown in this video are as follows:
11.5" Historical Service Issue (HSI)
Blade Finish: Satin
Hardware: Brass
Handle Material: Indian Rosewood
Handle Length: Medium (4.75")
Sheath: Western Leather
Sheath Colour: Brown
Grind Type: Standard Grind
