Hand tapping titanium Media
Published: 9 months ago
Hope it helps someone.
Tap size m2.5 super cheap HS tap
Drill size .086
Chamfer top and bottom of hole
Moly-d tap fluid
Go slow and easy
This is all much easier to do with a tapmatic and titanium specific spiral flute taps that are altin coated.
Yes I know the tap drill size is off. Technically it should be a .080 drill. But I’ve never once had a thread pull in titanium with this setup. Screws break or pull their threads before the titanium in every test I’ve done.
The reason I use a slightly large drill is because of how much titanium galls and cause the tap to break while cutting.
Keep in mind it’s only hold a pocket clip to a freaking knife, lol.
