Knifemaking Tuesdays Week 08 - redesigning The Norseman Media
Published: 12 years ago
For week 08 I was able to spend the whole day on the computer re-designing the knife and making it better than the original prototype in every way that I could. I started by making the handles thinner and more comfortable with some reliefs and carved out areas, changing the pivot and switching to spherical ball bearings instead of roller bearings like in my last video. I did some testing and found out that ball bearings make the blade swing out noticeably smoother than the roller bearings, and it definitely makes sense because there is less contact area, thus less drag. I added a stop pin and theoretically got the button lock to function properly. We will have to wait and see until I can make the next prototype to find out if I did it right or not.
