Carbon Fiber and Fixing The Machine Media

Published: 12 years ago

We got an order for some custom carbon fiber Emerson Mini A100 handles with a special NukoTools engraving. My brother Erik got started on the handles and about halfway through our milling machine started giving him issues, nearly ruining a whole sheet of carbon fiber. It turned out that some of the wires going to one motor were getting frayed and arcing, so we re-wired the whole thing, 8 wires for each of the 3 motors was a lot of colors to remember. I re-wired the 425oz Nema 23 motors for bipolar parallel instead of bipolar series, which got me way more power! Rapids used to be X40 Y40 Z15, now they're X100 Y130 and Z45! It just flies and I've got plans to make them even faster. The end of the vid shows Erik finishing up the last few machining ops on the handles and sanding them smooth.
