Tormach coolant pump upgrade Media
Published: 9 years ago
About a year ago I decided to upgrade the stock coolant pump on my Tormach PCNC1100 to something that flows a bit more. I searched around and figured that a pond pump from Home Depot would be the easiest, cheapest, and most effective solution. The stock Tormach pump is around 1/10HP, this Home Depot one is 1/6HP and I think the box said it flows around 2,220gph at 0' head height, less at the ~5' that I've got it at. It works awesome! Cheap, easy to replace, super happy. I also changed my coolant tank to an orange Rubbermaid tub, I love this, the orange makes it so easy to see everything, I never want a dark coolant tank again. This one is also at least twice as big as the factory tank.
With this setup I am flowing a lot more coolant, I can easily have two nozzles and still have to turn down the pressure with a ball valve or else I get a lot of splashback over the table guard shields. With the new enclosure I can really crank up the pressure.
Thanks for watching!
