MEGALODON™ vs. MEGA Weight Test | A New Record? Media

DO NOT TRY THIS TEST (OR ANY SIMILAR TYPE OF TESTING) AT HOME!

Andrew and John Demko set up the heaviest weight hang test ever performed on a folding knife.

With two different possible versions of the pre-production Demko Knives Megalodon™, each version has a slightly different locking geometry. Andrew's goal is to evaluate which version handles the abusive weight-hang test better. Measured in torque (inch-pounds), the weight hang test will evaluate the ability of the lock to maintain its intended locked position under extreme, super-human conditions. Andrew Demko already holds the current record for folding knife strength, but he is never satisfied with holding records. He strives to break them.

Will this test succeed in breaking his current lock strength records?

The weight hang test is extremely strenuous. It is designed to push a folding knife past the point of failure. In this test, incrementally-increased weight is hung from the open and locked knife handle at a point 4 inches away from the pivot point of the knife. Calculating the amount of force (torque) the Megalodon™ lock can withstand in inch-pounds means multiplying the total hanging weight by 4 (inches) to achieve the total torque force the Megalodon™ can withstand before breaking. SPOILER ALERT: it's over 4,000 inch-pounds of torque.
