Cutting and durability demonstration, 3V Field Knife Media
Published: 9 years ago
The purpose of this video is to demonstrate the cutting performance, edge retention and durability of our 3V Field Knife. This pattern is designed for cutting performance and edge retention. The steel, CPM 3V, have been taken up to HRC62 and the heat treat has been tweaked to maximize fine edge stability. It has outstanding edge retention and the heat treat supports a thin fine 15 DPS edge which cuts like a scalpel.
At the end of the video I cut up a cinder block, even though that's not what this knife is about (the edge is thinner than most kitchen knives). This is to show that even though the edge is quite thin and at a high Rockwell hardness it isn't particularly weak or brittle. Even though the thin geometry does chip under extreme abuse, it's not as much as one might expect and it doesn't break.
Knives are available periodically on Friday sales at Bladeforums.com
