3V chopper durability demo Media
Published: 8 years ago
This is a durability demonstration of a new heavy chopper design. The purpose of this video is to demonstrate the enhanced edge holding of a modified 3V heat treat.
This is CPM 3V at HRC 60.5, it is sharpened 20 DPS and the thickness is .034" behind the cutting edge.
Despite being reasonably thin with moderate bevel geometry it will tolerate extreme use, and with significantly less edge damage than can be achieved with the normal heat treat. There are other blades with durability at this level, Infi for example, but I believe that 3V with this heat treat represents an unequaled combination of high durability, edge stability and wear resistance.
This is a video that discusses some of the HT tweaks and how we went about evaluating some of it: https://youtu.be/6imZ4Vo8iwA
