Mini Stud Drivers - Custom Homemade Tools Media
Published: 3 years ago
Great beginner lathe project, or experienced machinist project. I needed a custom tool to install the small thumb studs on my knives, they don't have a screw head and they are hard to hold onto and get started. Using these small drivers with a little rubber gasket does the job perfectly.
7075 Aluminum turned on the lathe and then cut the flutes using an index head. This same design could be made larger for any screw driver handle or even a chisel handle.
I hope you enjoy the project and have a chance to make a set of these custom drivers of your own.
Lathe work completed on a Precision Matthews PM 1440TL using an Atlas Hand Wheel Collet Chuck and milling work completed on a Jet JMD-18PFN. Work holding on the mill was the Precision Matthews BS-01 Dividing Head and I used a GARR ΒΌ" 3 Flute Ball End Mill.
How to cut flutes using a dividing head.
How to drill accurate depth on a manual lathe.
Thank you for watching!
