Mitutoyo Micrometer - Replace Those Plastic Parts With Old Metal Parts! Media

Published: 1 year ago

Bought a new Mitutoyo Micrometer and did not like their new plastic parts for the thumb lock and the ratchet stop. I wanted to see if the old metal parts were interchangeable and the good news is they are.

If you have old Mitutoyo 103 series Micrometers with the metal thumb lock and metal ratchet stop, you should save those parts even if the mic is ruined. Those old metal parts are interchangeable with the new plastic parts and I am sure someone - like me - would like to have those old metal parts.

The spline on the thumb lock on the Micrometer is the same as 30 years ago, as well as the thread on the ratchet stop. They even give you the small spanner wrench tool you need to remove the ratchet stop. Within minutes you can remove the plastic parts and replace them with old metal ones.

I am not sure why Mitutoyo changed to plastic parts on their Micrometers, but I am not a fan of the look or feel and really prefer the old metal parts they used to have. I am glad the old parts still fit, so I can put them on the tools I use the most.

Thanks for watching!
